Rheem Unveils the Next Step in the Evolution of HVAC Serial Communications.
Comfort Control2 System™ CC²S provides comprehensive system status information to the contractor and unparalleled system control to homeowner.
ATLANTA – Rheem sets a revolutionary standard for ease-of-service and operation with the introduction of the second generation of its Comfort Control System (CC²S). The new HVAC control panel offers detailed system status displays for the Contractor and a unique set of system control features for the homeowner. The combination of advanced diagnostics and customizable system control will exceed the expectations of virtually any homeowner.
The Rheem Prestige Series 16 SEER, R-410A Heat Pump with Serial Communications (RPRL-024JEC) and Ruud Ultra Series 16 SEER, R-410A Heat Pump with Serial Communications will be the first products manufactured with the new CC²S control board. Over the next three months the launch will include other ultra-high efficiency heat pumps, air handlers and condensers, leading up to the incorporation of CC²S into other Rheem and Ruud offerings.
“CC²S will far surpass Contractor and homeowner expectations,” said Adam Schuster, manager, Rheem product marketing and development. “This advancement in serial communications will provide Contractors an exceptional tool that will allow them to spend less time on service calls and installation.”
A powerful new feature of the CC²S technology is its auto-configure capability. When a Rheem Series 500 Thermostat is used in tandem with the controller, the Contractor can set up the system, simultaneously monitor the air handler and heat pump, and customize the home comfort settings from one location. Simplifying these procedures streamlines the installation and maintenance process.
The Rheem CC²S was designed with satisfied Contractors in mind, from its easy 4-wire installation, to its detailed display of the unit’s operating history. A control board located on the indoor and outdoor units feature an easy-to-read, dual 7-segment LED display that provides up to 37 individual fault codes. The innovative control board also features a defrost component, eliminating the need for a secondary defrost board and reducing the number of individual parts that need service or maintenance.
When coupled with the Rheem Series 500 Thermostat, CC²S provides the homeowner with complete control over their comfort. Not only will the homeowner have advanced features such as 7-day programmability, humidity control and system status notification, but the Series 500 Thermostat will also communicate maintenance reminders, such as the need to change filters, UV lights and humidifier pads.

Other Series 500 Thermostat features:
* Intelligent scheduling ramp-up, allows homeowners to program their thermostat to reach a selected indoor temperature at a precise time, instead of merely turning on at that time

* Programmable fan speed control for the continuous circulation of air, provides increased comfort and numerous indoor air quality (IAQ) benefits
* Large 4” x 3” touch screen display is detachable from the wall and allows for armchair programming
When paired with a home’s existing thermostat, the CC²S control board is able to operate in Legacy Mode. This provides Contractors access to the dual 7-segment LED display and access to the fault codes, which significantly reduces diagnostic time, and provides usage of other system benefits. CC2S offers active comfort system protection, monitoring high and low pressure and general compressor operation.
During undesirable operating conditions, the home system will automatically shut down and the thermostat will display “Call for Service.” The ability to operate without a special thermostat makes CC²S an ideal solution for retrofit situations in which homeowners are looking for high-efficiency replacement equipment without having to purchase a new thermostat or air handler.
The Rheem Prestige Series 16 SEER, R-410A Heat Pump with Serial Communications is protected by a 10-year compressor warranty, 10-year parts warranty and a 10-year unit replacement guarantee.
