Hart & Cooley, which manufactures grilles, registers and diffusers for residential and commercial use, has announced it will close its plant at 2620 N. Flowing Wells Road starting May 1.

The closure will eliminate 185 jobs mostly involved in manufacturing. About 40 of those positions had been part of a layoff last year.

The company, based in Grand Rapids, Mich., blamed the plant’s closure on the downturn in the housing sector but said it will continue operating plants in Alabama and in Mexico.
